I have just read this wonderful book in one sitting:
I picked it up at a charity shop for 99p. Everybody wins!
Translated from the original Korean, it is a fable-like story containing allegories about motherhood, belonging, survival and sacrifice, and is one of those rare stories that can be enjoyed by both child and adult alike. In fact, my young daughter has already laid claim to it. Nothing can make a father prouder.
Also inspiring is the brief note on the author: how she was too poor to be able to attend middle school, but a friendly teacher gave her the key to the school, allowing her to go in whenever she wanted to read the books.
Who can know just what our random acts of kindness will ignite?
