Yes, over here the tv and everybody’s FB updates is full of it. I was writing the second draft of a story while listening to him-I put it away, it’s a dark enough story as it is.
There aren’t many left of his stature. Can only think of McCartney, Dylan, Springsteen, Clapton, Jagger&Richards. And they are all of an age.
Been trying to explain to my teenage daughter the impact for my generation, but in the end there’s only the music.
I don’t think any of ‘today’s’ artists will still be around and relevant in thirty years time.
My son who’s 26 adores Bowie, and has since he was 7 or 8. I imagine he’s gutted by this news. He was just home for four days. He listened to Bowie’s new album here. We drove him to the train station late yesterday afternoon and none of us had heard the news then.
Did you ever see Bowie in the movie “Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence”? Haunting performance.
No words. As a teenager I wore his records OUT. Naturally when he came to Memphis I wasn’t allowed to go, and then the concert sold out anyway. He was a genius and a lovely soul. he will be missed.

He will. I liked him, but there are a few people I know who were huge fans, and are very distressed this morning.

It’s 9:00am Monday morning where I am. This is the first I am hearing this heartbreaking news. Damn. What a legend. What a shame.

I did. And years ago in the cinema as the Goblin King. He was a huge influence on World culture, not just Britain.
