When The Stars Shone Brighter

Well, the Oscars are almost upon us. You know what? Current controversy aside, I have never watched a single Academy Awards presentation. Not a full show, live, anyhow. I may have caught the highlights the odd year.

Do any of you guys watch it? Maybe it’s because I like old movies, but, to me, the Hollywood of the past seemed much more glamorous.

The stars appeared brighter. More luminous.

  2. I agree with Michael (also about your poems). The only nominated films I saw were Brooklyn and The Martian. Both were excellent. But I saw them because I wanted to see them–not because of their nominations.
    When I was a kid, I fervently watched the Oscars and kept lists of my predicted winners. I haven’t cared about the Oscars in 12 years.

    • The only one I’ve wanted to see is The Revenant. As for the current controversy-in 2014 I went to the cinema to see Selma, and thought it an outrage that David Oyelowo was not even nominated for his role as Martin Luther King.

      And, of course, thank you for getting a copy of my book too 🙂

  3. I recommend seeing ‘Concussion’ as an example of great acting that was overlooked (for whatever reason, but still shameful) for nomination this year.

    That said, I don’t really follow the Awards, just every once in a while like the year ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” was up for nomination and ‘Raindrops’ got best song…just a wonderful movie and who can’t like (love!!) Robert Redford and ah, yes Paul Newman? HA!

    Hubby read that your British Academy gave this movie an award that same year, too…interesting.
