I couldn’t believe what I was reading when I got up this morning. The suspected suicide of a great actor and a really funny guy. An ever present on the road of life. From Mork and Mindy of my youth, through to Good Morning Vietnam, he made me laugh, and also moved me with his more serious roles in movies like Dead Poets Society, What Dreams May Come and Good Will Hunting. My kids particularly loved Hook and Jumanji. Even his appearances on talk shows were entertaining.
It just illustrates that no-one is immune from depression. Even the most wise-cracking, sanguine, successful people can suffer from that all consuming dark cloud.
I liked this quote from Spielberg, which he gave to sum up the man:
Robin was a lightning storm of comic genius and our laughter was the thunder that sustained him.
R.I.P, my Captain.
